Three Winners Selected for the 2005 Callahan Memorial Graduate Scholarship
The Aerospace Education Foundation has selected Captain Johnnie Barrett, Lieutenant Julie Corchado and
Lieutenant Jennifer Warren to receive the Captain Jodi Callahan Memorial Graduate Scholarship for 2005. AEF,
an affiliate of the Air Force Association, awards the Callahan Memorial Scholarship each year to deserving Air Force
active duty, full-time Air Force guard or reserve members pursuing a non-technical Master's degree. The scholarship
of $1000 is given in memory of Captain Jodi Callahan who was an AFA Under-Forty Director and a Trustee of the
Aerospace Education Foundation and is made possible through generous donations to the Jodi Callahan Memorial Fund by
her family and friends.
Those awarded this year were extremely worthy candidates. First, Captain Johnnie Barrett is pursuing a Master of
Science in Nursing degree from the University of Phoenix. While working as a staff nurse in the emergency department
at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida she has risen above her civilian counterparts and has earned the respect
of those who work with her. She has been given impressive responsibilities, including being named Officer-in-Charge
of personnel education, in which she trains 27 nurses and assistants.
Lieutenant Julie Corchado is currently seeking a Masters degree in Human Resources and Leadership from Troy
University. Lieutenant Corchado is a well respected member of the 6th Contracting Squadron. She has been given the
task of prioritizing work assignments from many different sources and has excelled. She is very active in her
community, taking part in many activities including organizing the Corona Top’s 2005 Heraldic Dinner.
Lieutenant Jennifer Warren, a Boston University student, is studying to receive her Masters degree in
Administrative Studies. Lieutenant Warren has proven her leadership skills in several ways. She trained and led 77
volunteers during a conference hosted by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and she currently supervises a
12-person team and a $3.2 million project to improve information exchanges between joint war planners for the Air
Force.
The Aerospace Education Foundation is devoted to a strong national defense and to research and public education
on aerospace excellence. AEF awards financial assistance to our Air Force Airmen and their families to pursue
individual academic goals through several scholarships, grants, and awards.
