Topic: The Chinese PLA Air Force and space program

Ken Allen is Senior China Analyst at Defense Group Inc. Allen is a retired USAF officer (1971-1992) with more than 30 years of analytic work on China. He currently focuses his work on Chinese military issues, particularly the PLA Air Force. He previously served as an enlisted Chinese linguist at NSA and in Taiwan, and as a Russian linguist in Berlin. After OTS, he served in Japan (5th Air Force), at PACAF Headquarters, in China and served as an instructor in the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Attaché School. While assigned as the Assistant Air Attaché to China from 1987-1989, he received the Director of Central Intelligence’s Outstanding Collector Award and was inducted into DIA’s Defense Attaché Hall of Fame in 1997. He holds a BA from the University of California at Davis and the University of Maryland, and an MA in International Relations from Boston University. He is the author of multiple books, studies, articles, and monographs on Chinese military affairs.

Kevin Pollpeter is the Deputy Director of the East Asia Program at Defense Group Inc. He is widely published on China national security issues, with a focus on China’s space program. His recent publications include, “Upward and Onward: Technological Innovation and Organizational Change in China's Space Industry” in the Journal of Strategic Studies (June 2011) and "China's Space Doctrine" in Andrew S. Erickson and Lyle J. Goldstein, eds., Chinese Aerospace Power (Naval Institute Press, 2011). A Chinese linguist, he holds an M.A. in International Policy Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
